Dennis Morikawa of Swarthmore (right) joined Reiichiro Takahashi (left), Consul General of Japan in New York, at the recent “Sakura Under the Stars” reception at Loews Hotel in Philadelphia. The Japanese ambassador and Morikawa, who is Honorary Consul General of Japan in Philadelphia and President of the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia, were among the guests at the opening of the annual Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival on April 16.
Strath Haven High School alumnus Cory Wade just finished a run as a member of the cast of the Biello Martin Songbook at the Louis Bluver Theater at the Drake in Philadelphia. Wade, who was both a contestant and a guest host on several seasons of America’s Next Top Model, said of singing in the revue, “Working with Michael Biello and Dan Martin has been an absolute dream. I am touched and inspired by their art along with their fierce activism in advocacy for LGBT equality. I am truly blessed to be a part of this piece.”
Ben Berger, associate professor of political science at Swarthmore College, has been named the executive director of the Lang Center for Civic & Social Responsibility for a five-year term. As interim director since July 1, Prof. Berger continued the center’s expansive programming, selected a new class of Lang Opportunity Scholars, and spread word about the center’s mission and resources to the college community through a series of faculty receptions and discussions.
