The Players Club of Swarthmore stages the perfect play for Valentine’s Day, about imperfect people finding their way through the maze of modern love. I Love You Because channels Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, telling the story of a pair of New York millennials, their disappointments and new hopes, all complicated by the efforts of opinionated friends.
The musical comedy opens Friday, February 12, at 8 p.m. The run continues with evening shows on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and Sunday matinees through February 27.
Written by Ryan Cunningham and Jonathan Salzman, I Love You Because was first produced Off-Broadway in 2006. The Players Club production is directed by Anne Marie Scalies of Springfield, with music direction by Allyson Mercer and choreography by Liz Staruch. The cast includes Mark Thompson and Kristina Psitos of Media, Jenna Pinchbeck and Frank Schierloh of Philadelphia, Sarah Kirk of West Chester, Eric Thompson of Concord township, Jeff Martin of Upper Darby, and Danielle Tumminelli of Hatfield.
