Ground will be broken for Central Park Swarthmore next Monday, March 7, with the felling of trees between Borough Hall and the municipal parking lot at Dartmouth and Park avenues. The lot itself will be off limits for parking beginning that day; drivers can avail themselves of meter parking along Park Avenue, Myers Avenue, and elsewhere in the Ville.
General contractor Premier Concrete estimates that work on the entire Central Park project will continue through June 4. However, Mayor Tim Kearney says, the preliminary schedule calls for the parking lot to be out of service only through Tuesday, April 19. Thus the lot should be open in plenty of time for the Swarthmore Fun-Fair on May 1 and for the coming season of the Farmer’s Market.
Work phases are as follows:
• Demolition and removals: March 7 to March 16
• Storm drainage phase: March 17 to March 22
• Concrete and asphalt phase: March 23 to April 19
• Block/pavers/ramps and site furnishings: April 20 to June 4
