The Swarthmore Senior Citizens Association invites everyone to the Dew Drop Inn on Saturday, December 31, New Year’s Eve, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for cookies, punch, friendly conversation, and perhaps some carols playing in the background. The Dew Drop Inn is located at 7 S. Chester Road.
Be sure to check out the activities at the Dew Drop Inn. Besides the sessions for bridge and other games, Sue Lawson invites crafters to come starting January 11 on the second and fourth Wednesday afternoons from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to work on their knitting, crocheting, counted cross stitch, or whatever their project is. Sue says, “It’s not just for women!” She also would like to revive the book discussions that once met at the Dew Drop Inn; if you are interested let her know.
The first meeting of The Gathering Place will be Wednesday, January 4, with a catered light luncheon served at noon, followed by a demonstration of healthy and delicious food by Zu deGain entitled “Creative Cooking and Eating.”
Zu, a Swarthmore neighbor and regular attendee at the weekly meetings, will be making a dish inspired by her Vietnamese cooking experience, and there will be samples for vegetarians as well as meat-lovers. Zu’s presentation will begin at 12:30 p.m. The Gathering Place meets at Swarthmore United Methodist Church at 129 Park Avenue.
With cold wintry weather ahead, the SSCA’s Gathering Place meetings each Wednesday through February will offer soup and a roll on the weeks other than the catered luncheons. The soups, from Occasionally Yours in Swarthmore will vary each week. Soup-eaters are asked to bring a soup mug if possible and may wish to donate $2 to help with costs. January 11 will be the first week for the soup and rolls.
