The Swarthmore Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) recently received approval for a grant application to the Delaware County Conservation District. The $500 grant will fund a project in Little Crum Creek Park whose primary objectives are to stabilize stream banks, encourage vegetation to improve water quality, and to reduce erosion during storm surges.
The EAC hopes to encourage and build awareness of the need to maintain and preserve our open spaces, and to engage local Scout troops, middle- and high-school students, Swarthmore College environmental groups, and local residents. Woody shrubs and trees will be planted along the stream banks, with the help of our community.
The complete installation will be conducted in the early spring, and must be completed by May 1, 2017, so stay tuned to this newspaper for more information.
