William Shin (right), a member of Rose Valley Boy Scout Troop 272, has embarked on an ambitious Eagle Scout project on the grounds of Hedgerow House,146 W. Rose Valley Road, Rose Valley. He met recently at the house with landscape architect Hank Bishop (left) and Hedgerow Theatre’s producing artistic director Jared Reed to discuss the project, which will create a “green screen” of shrubs and trees to shield the yard surrounding the property. He’ll also plan and create a memorial garden and pathway alongside the historic 1880 farmhouse, which is on the National Registry of Historic Places. Now known as the Hedgerow Theatre Farmhouse Studio, the building is used for performances, rehearsals, classes and as living quarters for members of the resident company. William’s project fits with Hedgerow’s ongoing Preservation and Beautification Plan, now in its 10th year. The Strath Haven High School junior hopes to complete the project by October 2016. The landscaping task was suggested to him by Scout Master Derrick Woodward and Eagle Scout leader Bill Hale; William likes gardening and may consider a career as a landscaper. Assisting with this project are landscape architect Hank Bishop, architect Robert Linn, and Hedgerow’s director emeritus Penelope Reed.
