Swarthmoreans Central to VIP

3-18 Swarthmoreans at VIP

Swarthmoreans were central to last Saturday’s VIP 35th Anniversary Gala at the Westin Philadelphia, which raised more than $500,000 to enhance access to legal services for the poor. (Philadelphia VIP is a nonprofit that provides legal services to low-income city residents.) From left to right: Mark Stewart, partner and chair of Ballard Spahr; Mary Gay Scanlon, pro bono counsel at Ballard Spahr; Jackie Kraeutler; Leonard Busby, partner at Montgomery McCracken; Eric Kraeutler, partner at Morgan Lewis; Judge Luis Felipe Restrepo of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, who received the VIP Brennan Award and delivered the keynote address; Kathy Restrepo, associate director of the University of Pennsylvania’s Master of Law program; Frannie Reilly, recipient of the VIP Champion Award and attorney with the Law Office of Frannie Reilly; Jay Reilly; and Lila Slovak, law clerk to Judge Restrepo. All are residents of Swarthmore except the Kraeutlers (Philadelphia; former Swarthmoreans), Busby (Rose Valley), and Slovak (Rutledge.) Busby, Scanlon and Eric Kraeutler served on the host committee for the event. Ballard Spahr associate Rogers Stevens was a featured performer at the Gala with his band Ballard Spahr Galactica (really!)
