Strath Haven High School’s 2015-2016 Delco Hi-Q team handily won its match against Cardinal O’Hara High School last week with a score of 49-21. SHHS took an early lead with correct answers to all but one regular question and showed particular strength in geography, where they earned maximum points. They also picked up a bonus point, and successfully scored four points in the team choice category. Delco Hi-Q is the nation’s oldest academic quiz competition. Pictured are (front, l. to r.) On Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Delaware County Daughters of the American Revolution recognized Good Citizens from ten area high schools. A DAR Good Citizen exhibits qualities that include a background of service at school and in the community, as well as leadership, dependability and patriotism. Churchman Smith of Wallingford, a 1949 graduate of Swarthmore High School (SHS), was recently inducted into the Delaware County Athletes Hall of Fame as a multi-sport athlete. Mr. Smith played both football and lacrosse at SHS, and was a linebacker on back-to-back undefeated teams under legendary Coach Millard Robinson. At Dickinson, where was one of the founders of the lacrosse program, he was a leading scorer on the football team and led the lacrosse team in scoring for three seasons. In 1952, he scored a game record of seven goals against Lafayette and was the first team member to achieve national recognition by being selected to play in the North-South All-Star Game in 1953.

Nicholas Dudek of Wallingford and Timothy McCullough of Rose Valley were named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at York College of Pennsylvania.

Jonathan George and Ian Gunn, both of Wallingford, were named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Coastal Carolina University.

Daniel Gibbs of Wallingford and Colin Smith of Rose Valley have been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Lehigh University.
