Leaves are starting to change color, and Halloween decorations are popping up everywhere.

For gardeners, that can only mean one thing—time to think about spring flowers!

To help you get your spring bloom on, the Swarthmore Horticultural Society (SHS) will hold its annual spring-blooming bulbs sale from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 16, at the Swarthmore Farmers Market.

This year’s sale features 16 selections that offer a wide variety of color and spring bloom. Almost all the plants attract butterflies and bees: it is part of SHS’s mission to encourage the planting of pollinator-friendly flowers and shrubs.

Among this year’s spring bulbs are an exquisite 1950s heirloom scarlet tulip and some prized allium varieties—including a fun new compact specimen.

Not forgetting the fall garden, the sale will include several varieties of fall-blooming bulbs that have been potted up and are ready to bloom. (You’ll also be able to spot these autumn flowers in bloom downtown over the next couple weeks—in Centennial Park, Central Park, and the Library Wall garden.)

To download the catalogue, which has information on all the varieties that will be on sale—including photos and prices—visit the SHS website.
