The schedule of events for this Saturday in Swarthmore.
Swarthmore is the fun-filled focus for the resident-consumer advocacy group Priority: DelCo Thrive when the group channels its monthly business blitz energy into the town’s bustling center square Saturday, June 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Village Vine Wine Bar + Bistro is the primary target of the group’s June blitz, but numerous Swarthmore businesses are collaborating in the effort to make the occasion an exciting celebration of all the town has to offer.
Since March 2021, Priority: DelCo Thrive has rallied hundreds of Delaware County consumers around the idea that they should prioritize purchasing with the small businesses of Delaware County. An idea crafted by Ulysses “Butch” Slaughter and managed by Transition Town Media and the Chester Housing Authority, Priority: DelCo Thrive is a critical consumer response to support locally-owned businesses impacted by the pandemic.
“Though our effort is a response to a crisis, our effort should become the way Delco consumers show our appreciation for our business neighbors,” said Slaughter. “Priority: DelCo Thrive is the way we ensure our county communities get the support and resources they need.”
Through coordination with Transition Town Media and The Chester Housing Authority, consumers pre-order meals online from Delco restaurants on a monthly basis, spending an average of $20. This month, Village Vine is offering three unique lunch options, which customers ordered through the Priority: DelCo Thrive website.
The Swarthmore event is the most expansive effort for Priority: DelCo Thrive to date. Rob Borgstrom, owner of waR3house3, has helped engage additional Swarthmore businesses. Scott Arboretum, the Swarthmore Co-op and his own waR3house3 will participate in the celebration of the town. Poetry, puppet shows and performances by the The Lost Northern Tribe will accentuate the afternoon activities.
“No matter the weather, we expect lots of smiles and laughter in Swarthmore on June 26,” said Slaughter. “We’ve got a lineup of activities that has something for the entire family. This is the beginning of something exciting in Delaware County.”
