Co-op celebrates freezer fund success

Co-op celebrates freezer fund success

To the Community:

We have successfully achieved the Co-op Freezer Fundraiser goal! The grand total raised is $105,000. Thank you to all Co-op owners and friends in the community that stepped up over the past several months. Whether you were filling the jar at the check-out counter, committing to loans, upping equity, making online donations or supporting the various fundraising events, we witnessed phenomenal owner engagement. A special shout-out goes to the generous, anonymous donor who provided the outstanding balance required to cover the total cost. Just as important were the volunteers who helped with the various fundraiser events including Movie Nights spearheaded by Helge and Erum Hartung, Fitness Fundraisers led by Sam Nardi and Danielle Neathery, and Thursday Night Live at Swarthmore Town Center.

This weekend the Swarthmore Co-op will join in the celebration of Philadelphia Grocery Co-op Day. The weekend actually kicks off Friday, October 18, at 10 a.m. when NBC10 Philadelphia covers the Philadelphia Grocery Co-op Day proclamation by Mayor Jim Kenney in front of City Hall. Commemorating the weekend, Mariposa Food Co-op, Weavers Way Co-op, Kensington Community Food Co-op, South Philly Co-op and the Swarthmore Co-op will come together and host activities and customer incentives with local vendors showing off their products, raffles, and other special deals. Stop by the Swarthmore Co-op on Saturday, October 19, at 11 a.m. for the Apple Pie contest and at noon for pumpkin painting. Visit swarthmore.coop and/or PhillyGroceryCoopDay.org for more information.
