The Lions Club’s Holiday Basket Drive Could Use a Little Help

The Lions Club’s Holiday Basket Drive Could Use a Little Help

To The Swarthmorean,

On Friday morning, December 24, the Swarthmore Lions Club will be delivering festively decorated boxes of food which will include canned goods, fresh produce, dessert, and a rotisserie chicken to needy individuals and families in the city of Chester and around Delaware County to help make the holiday a little more enjoyable. The Lions Club has been organizing the annual Holiday Basket Drive every Christmas Eve for at least 40 years. It has become a cherished holiday tradition both for the Lions and for the members of the community who have participated in the project over the years. The Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and the Swarthmore Co-op have also partnered with us to make this project happen.

Last year, thanks to the generous support of the community, we delivered 40 baskets and we would like to match or even exceed that number this year. As was the case last year, the Club has not been able to raise the funds that we typically raise (again, due to the cancellation of Fun-Fair 5K and the Independence Eve 8K) to cover the cost of delivering the same number of baskets that we delivered last year.

Could you please consider making a small donation to support this year’s Holiday Basket Drive? Any contribution would be appreciated. Checks can be made out to the Swarthmore Lions Club and mailed to P.O. Box 514, Swarthmore, PA 19081.

Also, there is a possibility that we will need additional drivers from the community to deliver some of the holiday baskets. If you are interested, please contact Jim Ryan at jdryan17@gmail.com.

Thank you.
