Early Spring

Wind blows the water’s surface
sending a small chill.
A single mallard dives.
Cyclists and walkers patrol
her circumference. Some
bring their dogs for a jolt
of sun and fair skies.
Man-made Lake Galena
has become a natural wonder.
There’s something calming
about the water.
Still early spring, I gaze
across her surface marveling
at rippling caused by a steady
northeast wind. My mind freezes
the moment in a memory that presses
my thoughts. No photo can capture
the gentle ease of a white gull
landing with a splash.
