Accidents

  • On March 25 at 3:45 p.m., the Swarthmore Police responded to the intersection of N. Chester Road and College Avenue for an accident with no injuries. At arrival, it was determined that a car was seen traveling on N. Chester Rd., and jumping the curb, striking several street signs. No other vehicles were involved, and the vehicle then left the area prior to police arrival. Witnesses described the vehicle as a gray or silver sedan, with no description of the operator. Anyone having information concerning this incident, should contact the Swarthmore Borough Police, 610-543-0123, attention Ptlm. Roger Hinckley.

  • On March 31 at 9:52 a.m., the Swarthmore Police responded to the intersection of Swarthmore Ave. and Wellesley Rd., where an accident had occurred. It was determined that no injuries had taken place, and through investigation, it was determined that both vehicles were headed north on Swarthmore Ave. As the lead vehicle was stopping for the stop sign at Wellesley Rd., the following vehicle failed to stop in time, before striking it in the rear bumper. Both vehicles were driven from the scene with minor damage. 

Other Calls for Service

The Swarthmore Police attended a “Lock Down Drill” at the Strath Haven Middle School on Tuesday, March 26. The Swarthmore Police accompanied the Nether Providence Police during this drill, which tests the readiness of students, faculty, and support staff, in case such a need should arise. The SHMS administration, faculty, staff, and students should be commended for the high level of readiness that was demonstrated during this drill.

Safety Note

With the weather now beginning to warm up, residents are advised to take note of an increase in pedestrian and bicycle traffic throughout the Borough.

Medical Emergencies

The Swarthmore Borough Police Dept. responded to nine medical emergencies during the week of March 25. Officers assisted responding medics and the Swarthmore ambulance for a variety of medical calls.

Service Alarms

The Police Dept. responded to eight alarm calls during the week of March 25. These calls ranged from false burglar alarms to fire alarms.
