On July 30, the Rotary Club of Swarthmore made a grant of $1,000 to the Foundation for Delaware County, helping establish a fund known as “Growing with Families.” The fund will benefit participants in the Delaware County Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC), the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) program and the Healthy Start project, now managed by the foundation.

While these services have reached close to 10,000 participants in the past year, restrictions on use of federal and state grants leave their programs without funding for some food items such as bottled water, baby formula, and healthy snacks or meals served at educational events — and crucial to attracting participants. The Growing with Families Fund will support the purchase of food and water for these important programs, which are widely recognized for the contributions they have made toward improving the health of children, youth and families in Delaware County.
