Longer Hours at Tyler

Longer Hours at Tyler

Tyler Arboretum is expanding its hours this year. From now through October 31, it will be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. This change means 16 more open hours a week than in previous seasons, which will give members, volunteers, and the public more time to enjoy the arboretum’s collections and landscapes.

“We’ve seen a surge in visitors and interest,” says the arboretum’s executive director, Mandy Santiago. “Between increased screen time and the amount of time we are spending in our homes, we wanted the peace and presence of our natural landscapes to be more accessible.”

Last year, Tyler had to close for six weeks during its peak spring season, close its summer camp, and lay off staff, according to Santiago. She notes that the arboretum has now rehired its team and resumed all its operations. “Now,” adds board president Heather Saunders, “more people than ever are coming to walk in the woods, enjoy the gardens, or take a socially distanced stroll with a friend.”
