Accidents

  • March 11, 9:15 p.m.: A car driving west on Yale Avenue stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with Park Avenue and was hit by a gray sedan driving east on Yale that failed to stop for the stop sign. The striking car— a gray sedan driven by a white man with a white male passenger — then drove away, heading north on Park. Responding officers checked the surrounding roads but couldn’t find the car. No one was injured. The police ask that anyone with information call them at 610-543-0123.

  • March 13, 1:25 p.m.: Two northbound cars were waiting on Cedar Lane to turn left onto Baltimore Pike. When the left-turn arrow on the traffic signal turned green, the second-in-line car started to move before the first-in-line car, colliding with its rear bumper. Both cars sustained minor damage but neither had to be towed.

Mayor Marty Spiegel swore in the newest member of the Swarthmore Borough Police Department, Marc Mattioli. A resident of Ridley Township, Mattioli was hired as a part-time officer. He is a graduate of the Delaware County Municipal Police Academy and is completing a bachelor’s degree at West Chester University. Mattioli has served with the Morton Borough Police Department and the Delaware County Park Police. He is currently a full-time officer with the West Chester University Police.
