Accidents

  • April 16, 3:40 p.m.: A car driving south on S. Chester Road was in the intersection with Yale Avenue when it was struck by a car heading east on Yale. The driver of the Yale Avenue car said that, as they approached the red light at the corner of S. Chester, they accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake, thus hitting the southbound car. No one was injured, but both cars had to be towed.

  • April 22, 8:38 a.m.: A car made its way onto a Swarthmore College campus walkway, where it struck a lamppost near the Faulkner tennis courts. Responding officers found the driver to be disoriented and called medics to the scene. After the medics determined he was suffering from a medical condition but did not need further treatment, the driver was picked up by his son.

Alarms

Police responded to 8 alarm calls, including false burglar alarms, fire alarms, and panic alarms.

Medical Emergencies

Police responded to 11 medical emergencies, assisting medics and the Swarthmore ambulance.

Other

The police department has installed a new phone system with an “auto attendant” to guide callers through a list of choices. Anyone calling 610-543-0123 will reach the new system which, among other features, will permit them to leave voicemails for individual officers.

The fastest way to reach a police officer — even in a non-emergency — is to call 911.
