Accidents

  • January 19, 10:35 a.m.: Two cars were travelling east on South Morton Avenue in Rutledge, approaching President Avenue. The first car stopped before entering the intersection, but the second car failed to stop in time and struck the first car’s bumper. No one was hurt. The cars sustained minor damage but could be driven from the scene.

  • January 27, 4:11 p.m.: A car was driving east on Elm Avenue. Trying to turn right onto Swarthmore Avenue, the driver misjudged the turn and struck a utility pole. No one was hurt. The car sustained minor damage but could be driven from the scene.

  • January 28, 5 p.m.: A car driving on Fairview Avenue toward South Chester Road pulled around a car stopped on the side of the road. But as they attempted to re-enter the travel lane, the driver failed to notice a third car that had pulled into the lane. The first car struck that car’s side front fender. No one was hurt. Both cars were able to be driven from the scene.

Arrest for Stolen Car

January 18, 10:44 a.m.: During a routine patrol near the intersection of Fairview and South Chester roads, an officer’s license plate reader alerted him to the presence of a potentially stolen car. After confirming that the car was stolen from Springfield Township, the officer stopped the driver, who was arrested and transported to the Swarthmore police station for processing. She will receive a preliminary hearing in Media District Court. Enterprise Car Rental reported the car stolen last October. 

Alarms

Police responded to four alarm calls, including fire alarms, panic alarms, and false burglar alarms.

Medical Emergencies:

Police responded to 11 medical emergencies, assisting medics and the Swarthmore ambulance.
