On Tuesday, May 28, Swarthmore’s Fire Dept. responded to a mutual aid call to assist Garden City FD & South Media FD for a “two-vehicle accident with entrapment — one vehicle into the golf course.” The accident involved two vehicles in a head-on collision on S. Providence Rd. at Waterford Way. One vehicle ended up in the front lawn of an adjacent resident; the second, which came to rest inside the fence of the Springhaven Golf Course, required the extrication of the passenger from the vehicle. This was accomplished by cutting away the rear door pillar and carefully lifting and sliding the victim out the rear door onto a backboard for immediate transport to an area hospital. Both drivers required medical treatment. Other assisting fire departments dispatched for ambulance services were Parkside and Medic 81. Photo by Johnathan Cresson.
