Accidents

August 30, 7:30 a.m.: Police were called to the 300 block of Ogden Avenue where a large branch had fallen onto a parked car and across the road. The car’s roof was damaged, but no one was hurt. Members of the Swarthmore Public Works Department cleared away the debris. 

Car Break-ins

August 19, 8:30 a.m.: Officers met with a resident who reported that his car, parked in the driveway of a house in the 500 block of Walnut Lane, had been broken into earlier that morning. A white female had been seen walking up the driveway, entering the car, and removing unknown items. The unidentified woman was then observed walking south on Walnut Lane and turning down Hillborn Avenue. Anyone with information, or who may have video of the area, is asked to call the Swarthmore Borough Police Department at 610-543-0123.

Speed Checks

Swarthmore police have been conducting random speed checks throughout Swarthmore and Rutledge since August. Affected areas include (but are not limited to): Swarthmore Avenue, Yale Avenue, Fairview Road, Chester Road, and South Morton Avenue. Speed checks will continue through the fall.

Residents should expect increased traffic now that summer is coming to an end.

Alarms

Police responded to 17 alarm calls, including false burglar alarms, fire alarms, and panic alarms.

Medical Emergencies

Police responded to 14 medical emergencies, assisting medics and the Swarthmore ambulance.
