Looking for something to do? If you are fully vaccinated, Swarthmore Senior Citizens Association (SSCA) may have just the ticket—or mahjong or canasta or bridge or needlework or knitting or board games—for you. How about a movie? Or just chatting with friends over a cup of coffee?

If you are vaccinated, take yourself to the Gathering Place at Swarthmore United Methodist Church, 139 Park Avenue. There’s something going on there just about every day. Monday afternoons, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., are devoted to knitting, needlepoint, and any other hand crafts you wish to engage in. Do you play bridge? On Wednesdays and Thursdays, round up your own fearsome foursome and play between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Is mahjong more your speed? Move those tiles on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Can you canasta? Or perhaps you prefer a board game or a jigsaw puzzle or a special craft project? Then just show up on Friday between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to take part in those activities. As for that cup of coffee, it’s always available at the Gathering Place, too.

We also meet up on Friday afternoons, between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., at the Swarthmore Co-op. Bring your cup of joe or your glass of iced tea or your bottle of soda; come for 10 minutes or 60; meet old friends and make new ones.

But wait! There’s more! SSCA debuted a new program earlier this week: Tuesday matinees. Bob Turner is our host and discussion leader extraordinaire. Future movies are still to be chosen; be on the lookout for announcements at swarthmoreseniors.com or in the morning SSCA newsletter. If you don’t already get the newsletter, email swarthmoreseniors@gmail.com and ask to be put on our mailing list so you can discover all the programs and events sponsored by the Swarthmore Senior Citizens Association. And remember, it’s not for seniors only.
